Double Beam Buck

Double Beam Buck

October 22, 2018 by

2018 has been an excellent year so far for us here at Whitetail Crossing.  This past weekend saw favorable conditions allowing us to get back in the timber and take this beautiful double main beam buck.  Alan made a great shot at only 12 yards with his Muzzleloader and was tagged out 10 minutes into his hunt.  The buck score a shade over 133".  Congrats Alan.

Debb gets her first deer ever

Debb gets her first deer ever

October 22, 2018 by

Debb had a roller coaster week.  Debb and her husband Mike from Pennsylvania are back this year, the same week they came in 2017.  The early muzzleloader combo hunt we offer has been good to them.  This year Debb made the decision to sit by her self so both her and Mike could sit separately and cover more ground.  On Thursday, Debb squeezed off on a 9 Point, only to find out that she gave it a haircut.  After regrouping on Friday and putting it behind her, she went out Saturday morning with her Muzzleloader and with luck on her side, the same buck walked back out and she connected.  After a 100 yard blood trail, we came to find her first deer ever.  Congrats Debb.

Chase Smokes Biggest Buck to Date

Chase Smokes Biggest Buck to Date

October 22, 2018 by

For those of you that know me well, this is an achievement of a lifetime for me. But what I’m more appreciative of is how humbling the whole experience was. This week taught me humility, gratitude and the importance of keeping priorities straight. I had a disastrous start to the week that almost completely took me out of the game.  When lowering my bow down after my first evening hunt, my bow rope broke and my bow crashed off the climbing sticks and hit the ground hard, leaving my quiver in pieces, cams dirty, arrows scattered, and sight completely moved.  On top of that, I left my release back in Virginia.  I was able to find a local bow shop to get me back in the game.  I really had to gather myself and take a deep breath. Then realize how unbelievably fortunate I am to be happy, healthy, living in the greatest county in the world and have some of the greatest people in my life that a guy could ask for. And it’s amazing how things tend to work themselves out when you count your blessings and not let bad situations crush your emotions and attitude.  I was sitting in a 12 ft ladder stand that positioned perfectly for where there deer usually come in.  This night, the deer came in from behind me and walked directly down wind.  This buck eventually walked 6 yards from my stand and as I let him get to 20 I went into my pre-shot routine. I smoked him and he only went 40 yards before piling up.  My best buck ever.  I have been coming here for 6 years and have got to see this place from the very beginning.  It gets better every year and Im happy to call Bryan a great friend.  I can't wait for next year.

Chase Returns and Rattles in a Nice 8

Chase Returns and Rattles in a Nice 8

Chase was here earlier this year and played chess with a  160"+ deer, seeing him 3 out of 6 days.  He arrived back here on Friday and almost immediately was able to punch a tag as possibly the same buck emerged at 40 yards behind the brush scent checking a corn pile we had 100 yards away.  No shot presented itself.  On his 3rd day, he settled back into the timber and at 10:45 am when most people are out of the stand, Chase was about to unleash fury.  He hit the rattling antlers as hard as he could and this buck came charging in looking for a fight.  Chase made a good shot and watched the buck fall in sight.  Congrats Chase on your 3rd deer with us.

Tough Weather Conditions for Combo Hunt

Tough Weather Conditions for Combo Hunt

October 22, 2017 by

Our Combo hunters ran into some tough weather conditions this week.  (Oct 18-22)  We had temps gradually rising everyday ending with an 80 degree day today(sunday).  We did have some close encouters at first light, nearly having two big boys on the ground, however our hunters needed just 5 more minutes of light.  After no luck the first 4 days, Denise broke the ice with a nice buck this morning.  Followed by both Jeremiah, who was here opening week of September, and Ches, tagging out on nice bucks themselves, both of which was their first ever with a muzzeloader.
